"Doctor.. I have not done blood/urine for a while"
Complete annual physicals, in the traditional sense, are no longer insured by OHIP. These have been replaced by the “Periodic Health Review or Exam “. These appointments are exclusively in-person visits and are primarily for preventative care measures tailored to an individual’s age, health and family history, which means an overview of health and health-related risks. As relevant to your circumstance, it may include medication review, blood pressure, cancer screening, relevant surveillance blood tests, diagnostic imaging, vaccinations, and perhaps 1 medical concern. If you have a list of active things, you want covered, we can certainly document these issues but will only have time to address 1 of them depending on their complexity. Rest assured that this does not mean your other issues aren't important, but we will prioritize, and book follow-ups as needed. Please arrive 10 min prior to your periodic health checkup appointment.
This service is at the following intervals:
21-39 every 3 years,
40-64y every 2-3 years,
65y and older every 1-2 years.
Screening age and frequency depend on your health and risk factors, as applicable If you are 30 or older, please indicate if you would like to pick up a lab req, or have it emailed to you, to go to the lab prior to this wellness visit.
Please contact the office, we will have to review this request individually and get back to you.
What is the difference between a regular appointment and an appointment for a periodic health visit?
A regular appointment is to address a specific health concern. A physical (previously called an Annual Physical Exam) involves a customized review of your current health status including a review of your health history and a physical exam. It typically includes an update on your medical history, height, weight, and blood pressure, a full physical examination, and a review of immunization status, medications, and preventive care measures.
